It’s barbecue season and what better side dish than the Spicy Bacon Baked Bean recipe from Different Drummer’s novel, The Serpent’s Tooth, which ends with a glorious outdoor feast.

Today’s recipe is from the narrator, a prominent character in The Serpent’s Tooth:

Spicy Bacon Baked Beans

Ingredients

·       2 28 oz can pork & beans

·       1 lb bacon cut and fried

·       1 onion chopped small

·       1/4 cup brown sugar

·       1 tsp ground mustard

·       1 8 oz can tomato sauce

·       1 jalapeno diced    

Instructions

1.    In fry pan start browning cut bacon. When bacon is almost brown add onion and jalapeño and sauté until onions are translucent and jalapeños are soft.

2.    Drain excess grease from pan.

3.    Stir all ingredients together.

4.    Bake at 350 for 1-1.5 hours
